March 29 Supper with BS Gang + NUS students + I was tagged Had supper with the BS family for the first time of the semester. Haha, just thought I'd go out once with them before the semester ends. I'm sure I won't have time to do it next week, or the weeks after that, so it had better be this week. There were quite a number of us, but somehow we managed to squeeze into Jon Chong's car, and Simon's. 8 people in Jon Chong's car(JonC, Kai Ling, Chew Wei, Tirza, Geri, Jocelyn, Justin, me) and 5 in Simon's (Simon, Nick, Gideon, Wayne, Jing Jing). Supper was quite enjoyable, we had soya drinks and 'tau huey'; and the usual light talk and silly picture taking (this time mainly focusing on JonC pretending to dig his nose). Poor JonC was very tired, had to wake up early tomorrow and send us all back as well. Still he was quite cheerful and chirpy, as usual. Oh, we got homework (or tutorial) for next week, so remember to get yours from me, Jon (Tan). Simon will be doing integrity check on Thursday night via MSN (so maybe we need to block him from our lists for that one day if our homework isn't done, hehe). The sharing today was quite short - it was on the 10 lepers of which 9 were healed but only one came back to give thanks, and that one person was a Samaritan. I agree with Simon that the fact that he used his restored vocal chords to praise God in a loud voice was most beautiful. Out of the 10, 9 were excited by the gift, only 1 by the Giver. Jesus was saddened by the fact that only one was saved upon receiving the gift; as He was saddened also by the rich young man who came for advice on how to enter the kingdom of heaven. Also, Simon drew a parallel to this case to the parable of the prodigal son, who was interested in the inheritance of his Father, rather than the Father himself. The Father gave of his riches but I guess his heart yearned for his son to love him above all the riches he could give to him. As I read blogs and hear people share, both here and at home; as I recap my own attitude towards God, I realize that there's much to learn from today's BS. We thank God for relieving burdens, for passing interviews, for opening doors, for good results, for many many things... but do we thank God and most of all be happy and excited by Him? Do we just pause and thank God for just being Him? Simon didn't say this but I feel that sometimes we need to pause and just be still before God... something very hard to do in this hectic and busy life, but nevertheless essential. As one of teachers said back home in Tampin; just be quiet before God, and love God. Love Jesus. Even when there's nothing to give thanks for, even when circumstances show it to be so; we could just thank God for being Himself. And how much there is to thank because God is just... God. Because God is God we have ultimate justice, ultimate grace, strength for the trials, joy during pain, and abundant, never-ending love. These things never change no matter what does, because God is God. Be excited by the Giver, and you'll never cease to be excited. Hall stay/hostel stay applications results are out. There seems to be a lot of confusion even within hall as those who have met the minimum activity requirements did not manage to stay in. However, according to JCRC (for those outside hall, these are our hall representatives who take care of the admin stuff), if we fulfilled the bare minimum of the recommended workload, we should be able to stay in as that is the cut-off point. Hall forum was an exciting read. Hidden under the cloak of anonymity, many residents were pointing fingers at JCRC, blaming them for not giving them 'exact' information to confirm being able to stay in hall. It never ceases to surprise me how uncivilized NUS students could be though I see examples of these time and again. The points forum explained all these queries nice and clear. Either these people did not pay attention during the points forum, or they just gave it a miss and didn't read the minutes. And now, because of things they didn't take measures to understand, they are trying to shift the blame on others while it is they themselves that not have been responsible. I'm not pro-JCRC or taking sides or anything; it's just that sometimes visits to the RH-forum makes me feel that the JCRC are quite under-appreciated. They are as if being likened to mini-gods or something, expected to solve every tiny little problem up to the mega ones proficiently. Not that they are being revered like gods are too, I rarely see comments praising the hard work and effort of the JCRC. Maybe I'm a bit biased by the fact they made us nice souvenirs after Filodoksia was over, but this just shows that the JCRC knows how to appreciate hard work and effort - shouldn't we learn from them in this aspect also? A visit to the forums is all that takes to deter a Rafflesian from taking up a JCRC post, unless he or she is so certain that he could live up with expectations that go higher and higher, while at the same time, be under-appreciated still. Also, after reading Yi Feng's blog entry, I am quite shocked and saddened by the fact that NUS students still do cheat! Maybe this is driven by desperation or other motives, or maybe the temptation is too great. But still for students in a university like NUS to cheat - makes you wonder how they got into here in the first place. One reason I like NUS is because a bulk of the people I meet not only excel academically, but their personalities are so nice to match up too. I can find so much character, so much good in these people, which means that it's not just intelligence they have, it's good character as well. But then again this shows that cheaters are everywhere, even in NUS. To most of us, being a student in NUS is something to be proud of. Must you mar this image by cheating in exams? To me, there's nothing to be proud of if you're in dean's list because you cheat in exams. Or if you're in dean's list but you look down on others who are weaker academically (or in other aspects). Or if you can write brilliant essays but use the 'F' word (or those similar to it) as the top used words in your dictionary list. What is brains without good character? What is a good job, a good salary and a way of living without respect from others? Finally, thanks Yew Hong for telling me that I was tagged by Yi Tyeng. I would have tagged you next, but then you were tagged by her too. Bet you'd tag me if I wasn't tagged as well, haha. I think I saw this list of questions (or something similar to it) in XJ's blog, but he ended the chain just there. Little did I know that this would get to me in less than one week. Instructions:
Remove 1 question from below and add in your personal question, make it
a total of 20 questions, then tag 8 people in your list, list them out
at the end of this post. 3. Describe the current situation of your life at the moment. 4.Where is the place that you want to go most? 7.What are you afraid to lose the most right now?
b) Very helpful and kind (now here's an example where good character and brains go together) c) Still remembers me after not seeing me for so long =P
14.What is your ambition? OK here comes the hard part la... Eight people that I wanna tag (if they read this):
